General information
Cocoa research in Kerala Agricultural University was initiated in 1979 under the world bank funded programme on Kerala Agricultural Development Project (KADP).A number of long term experiments were initiated under this programme. The project was terminated in 1984, when many of the research programme were only half way through. Due to the untiring effort of Dr. R.ViKraman Nair, the then Principal Investigator, Cadbury India Limited agreed to provide financial assistance. Thus Cadbury-KAU Co-operative Cocoa Research Project (CCRP) came into being on 1st April 1987.This was a land mark in the history of cocoa research in India. Cadbury-KAU Co-operative Cocoa Research Project is perhaps, the only research project in India, which receives financial assistance from a multinational company. Research on cocoa in Kerala Agricultural University is rated as one of the best in the world.
