MEALY BUG Classification
Main Host: Coconut Occurrence: Mealy bugs colonize on all tender plant parts like bases of spear leaf, spadix, and inflorescence and beneath the perianth of the nut. Damage: Colonization by the mealy bug on the spindle leaves results in failure of heart leaf development and eventually results in death of the seedling. In case of severe infestation the spadix remains stunted coupled with immature nut fall. Phoeretic association of ants is seen with the mealy bugs. Management : Seedlings : Spray 0.05 % monocrotophos / 0.1% fenthion Bearing palms : Spray 0.05 % dimethoate / 0.025 % methyl demeton Main Host: Coconut Occurrence: Mealy bugs colonize on all tender plant parts like bases of spear leaf, spadix, and inflorescence and beneath the perianth of the nut.
