The Newly established center for AICRP on Palms (Arecanut) is located at University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Navile Campus, Shivamogga the first integrated university in the state of Karnataka, which has both agricultural and horticultural sciences under its purview. AICRP headquarter for Palms (Arecanut) is about 5 km away from Shivamogga town on Savalanga road with an altitude of 650 M above MSL, Latitude of 14o0’N to 14o1’ N and longitude of 75o40’ to 75o42’ East. The center is established to take up scientific research work on important arecanut pests viz,. Koleroga and Yellow Leaf Disease, Hidimundige disorder and root grub problems in areca growing areas of Karnataka.
To take up on farm research trials on arecanut, UAHS has sanctioned 12.5 acres of land at Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Honnavile (ZONE-7). The lands are sandy loams with medium to low fertility. The important horticulture crops with coconut, arecanut, mango, grapes are being cultivated successfully. The station receives an average annual rainfall of 827.2 mm with a spread over period of 66 rainy days.
