The coconut research station, Veppankulam was established in 1958 to carry out research on coconut to cater the needs of the coconut farmers in Tamil Nadu. It was later brought under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during 1973. It acts as a Co-ordinating Research Centre for palms in Tamil Nadu under ICAR-AICRP on Palms from 1973. The centre is situated at 10o29’N altitude and790 23’E longitude at an altitude of 20.0 m above MSL. The soil sandy in nature with the pH 7.1 to 7.7. Region receives an annual rainfall of 112.5mm.
